Contactless Check-In
Last updated:
In short
Contactless check-in is the end-to-end process of registering a guest, capturing required ID, assigning a room, and unlocking the door — without a guest standing at the front desk.
Contactless Check-In
Contactless check-in extends the digital path that began with online booking. Guests complete required registration fields before arrival via a tokenised link. Where the hotel has configured digital locks, arrival can include a PIN or smartphone-based credential; otherwise staff still completes the key handoff on site. Common implementation options include translated forms, manual document-data entry, optional identity verification, and market-specific compliance checks.
Why it matters
Front desk wait time is consistently the lowest-rated touchpoint in guest satisfaction surveys. Contactless check-in directly addresses it — and removes the strongest argument for staffing reception around the clock.
How Guestivo helps
Frequently asked questions
Requirements vary by market. Guestivo supports pre-arrival registration data collection and optional identity verification where configured; the current guest check-in flow is designed around data entry and configured verification rather than document-image upload.
Not strictly — many hotels start with a key drop. But to fully bypass the front desk you need either a digital lock (Salto, Yale, Schlage via Seam) or a managed key safe.
Contactless check-in is opt-in. Guests who prefer the desk continue to use it. Around 60-70% of guests under 45 opt for contactless when offered.
